Six or seven people and a hill road is where most rental plans fall apart. Two hatchbacks means two drivers and a convoy that loses each other at every fuel stop. A tempo traveller means a driver you did not want. Seven seater car rental in Chandigarh solves it in one vehicle, and there are exactly two worth talking about.
The Mahindra Scorpio N and the Toyota Fortuner are both automatic, both carry seven, and both have the torque for a full day on NH3 or NH5 without feeling strained. The gap between them is refinement and price, not capability, and it is a bigger gap than the spec sheets suggest.
One thing worth saying before you book either: seven seats is not seven seats plus seven suitcases. The third row and the boot compete for the same space in every SUV built. Read the luggage note below before you promise anyone legroom.

PICKING BETWEEN THEM
Mahindra Scorpio N
The value pick at ₹5,499 a day
Strong diesel torque, 350 km included, and the one most families book. It handles the Pandoh gorge and the Solan climb without drama, and the third row is genuinely usable for adults on a short leg or children for a long one. Where it costs you is noise: at highway speed for eight hours you notice the difference from the Fortuner.
Toyota Fortuner
The comfortable one at ₹7,999 a day
The quietest cabin we rent and the highest allowance at 400 km a day, which is why it goes out on Ladakh trips more than anything else. It is the right answer for corporate travel, for anyone driving twelve hours in a stretch, and for groups where somebody will complain. GST invoices available if the booking needs one.
Luggage, honestly
Both cars seat seven. Neither seats seven with a week of luggage behind the third row. In the Scorpio N, six people and six soft bags works. Seven people means bags on laps or a roof carrier, and we can fit one for a small charge if you ask at booking.
The Fortuner is better but not transformed. Its boot with all three rows up takes two large soft bags and a few daypacks. Hard-shell suitcases are the enemy here, because they do not compress into the odd shapes that third-row boot space actually offers.
Our practical advice for a group of seven going to Manali for five days: pack soft, take one roof carrier, and put the two people who mind least about legroom in the back for the highway stretch. Swap at the fuel stop in Bilaspur.
Where a seven seater is the wrong choice
McLeod Ganj above the main square, the older lanes of Shimla above Lakkar Bazaar, and the cantonment roads in Kasauli. All three are narrow, all three have parking designed for a 1990s hatchback, and a five metre SUV turns a two minute arrival into a twenty minute reversing exercise with an audience.
If your trip is mainly one of those towns, take two smaller cars or park lower and walk in. We would rather tell you that now than watch you find out on a Saturday evening.
Seven seater rates and what is in them
The Scorpio N is ₹5,499 a day with 350 km included, and the Fortuner ₹7,999 with 400 km. Both figures include comprehensive insurance, GPS, the Himachal Pradesh inter-state permit, 24/7 WhatsApp support and free delivery anywhere in Chandigarh, Mohali or Panchkula. Zirakpur and Derabassi are a flat ₹200.
Split across seven people, a three day Scorpio N hire is ₹16,497, which comes to roughly ₹785 per person per day before fuel. That is the arithmetic worth doing before anyone suggests a taxi.
What these cars are bad at
Fuel. Both are large diesel SUVs and on a hill route you should budget noticeably more per kilometre than a Creta, let alone a Swift. Over a 620 km Manali round trip that difference is real money, and it partly closes the gap between hiring one seven seater and hiring two hatchbacks.
Tight urban parking, as covered above. And in the Fortuner specifically, the size that makes it comfortable also makes it the hardest car in our fleet to place on a narrow Himachal shoulder when a bus wants to pass. It is a superb long-distance car and an awkward town car.
FAQ
7 SEATER CARS QUESTIONS
Which 7 seater cars can I rent on self drive in Chandigarh?
SelfDriveGo rents two seven seaters: the Mahindra Scorpio N at ₹5,499 a day with 350 km included, and the Toyota Fortuner at ₹7,999 a day with 400 km. Both are automatic and both come with comprehensive insurance, the Himachal inter-state permit, GPS and free delivery across the Chandigarh Tricity.
How much does a 7 seater car rental in Chandigarh cost per day?
From ₹5,499 a day for the Mahindra Scorpio N. The Toyota Fortuner is ₹7,999. Across seven people a three day Scorpio N hire works out near ₹785 per person per day before fuel, which is the comparison worth making against a chauffeured tempo traveller.
Is the Scorpio N or the Fortuner better for a Manali trip?
The Scorpio N for most groups, because it does the job for ₹2,500 less a day. Choose the Fortuner if the drive is longer than Manali, if it is corporate travel, or if cabin quiet over eight hours matters to you. Both are cleared for Manali, Dharamshala and Shimla, and both handle the Atal Tunnel run to Sissu.
Can seven people fit with luggage?
Seven people fit. Seven people plus a week of hard suitcases do not, in either car. Pack soft bags, and ask us at booking for a roof carrier if the group is full. Six people with luggage is comfortable in the Scorpio N and easy in the Fortuner.
Do you have an Innova Crysta or a Hycross?
Not currently. Our seven seaters are the Mahindra Scorpio N and the Toyota Fortuner, and the older Innova listing now redirects to the full fleet. If a seven seat automatic with 350 km a day is what you need, the Scorpio N is the closest equivalent and costs less than most Innova self drive quotes in Chandigarh.
Can I take a 7 seater to Spiti or Ladakh?
The Toyota Fortuner yes, and it is a popular Ladakh car because of the 400 km allowance and the quiet cabin. The Scorpio N is cleared for Manali, Dharamshala and Shimla but not for Spiti or the Manali-Leh Highway. For those two routes we release the Jimny, Thar, Hilux and Fortuner only.
Is a GST invoice available for a corporate booking?
Yes, on both seven seaters. Tell us the company name and GSTIN at booking and we raise the invoice against it. The Fortuner is the car most corporate bookings take, and our /corporate page covers monthly and repeat-booking arrangements.
