Every car we
rent has done
your route.

We personally drove Kunzum, Rohtang, and the Spiti circuit before adding a single car to this fleet. What looks like a rental service is a group of obsessive road trippers who got tired of hiring the wrong car.

01

Mountain-vetted, not just "clean"

Our Jimny has 4x4 low-ratio engaged at Kunzum Pass. Our Creta has cleared Rohtang. We personally drove every route before adding a single car to this fleet.

02

Locked price, no surprises on return

No fuel levy. No outstation surcharge. No disputed scratch photos at 11 PM. The number on your booking confirmation is the number you pay, and the ₹5,000 deposit is back with you inside 24 hours of return.

Insurance and HP permit already in the day rate
03

Rescue, not a hold-music helpline

3 AM outside Kaza with a flat tyre. You get a person who has been to Kaza, not a script reader. We've driven every route we rent on. That's why our support is actually useful.

24/7 WhatsApp, answered by a person

Your doorstep, not our depot

We deliver to your address the evening before, fuelled, photographed, walkthrough done. You leave at dawn rested. No 5 AM auto-rickshaw to a warehouse on city outskirts.

RENTING IN THE TRICITY

SELF DRIVE CAR RENTAL
IN CHANDIGARH

Chandigarh is an unusually good place to start a road trip. You are ninety minutes from the first hill station, three hours from Shimla, and a single long day from the edge of the Himalayan desert. What most people struggle with is not the driving. It is getting hold of a car without losing half a day to a depot queue, a deposit argument, or a booking that quietly changes vehicle at the last minute.

We run self drive car rental in Chandigarh the way we would want it done for our own trips. Cars come to you, fuelled and photographed. Rates start at ₹1,299 a day for a hatchback and ₹3,999 for an SUV, and the figure on your confirmation is the figure you pay. Insurance, GPS and the Himachal Pradesh inter-state permit are already inside that number, which matters more than it sounds when you are at the Parwanoo barrier at seven in the morning.

There is no driver. That is the whole point. You set the departure time, you stop where you want, and nobody is waiting in the car park sending you messages about their return schedule. If you have only ever taken a chauffeured taxi to Shimla, the difference on a trip like Spiti is not small. It changes what the trip is.

What is actually included in the daily rate

Comprehensive insurance, GPS tracking, the HP inter-state permit, roadside support on WhatsApp for the length of your trip, and free delivery anywhere in the Tricity. Fuel is on you, tolls are on you, and kilometres past the daily allowance are billed at ₹8 each. The refundable deposit is ₹5,000 for a car, returned within twenty four hours of the vehicle coming back in the condition it left in.

We photograph every existing mark with you standing there at handover, and again at return. It is a boring five minutes that removes the single most common argument in this industry. The full pricing page lists every rate and every add-on, including the rooftop bike rack and the satellite communicator we lend for Spiti and Leh.

Which car for which route

This is the question worth getting right, and the honest answer is that most people over-book. A Thar for a Shimla weekend is money spent on ground clearance you will not use. Equally, a hatchback booked for Kaza is a trip that ends early. Rough guide:

Swift or Baleno

Kasauli, Shimla, Chail, Amritsar

Tarmac the whole way. A hatchback is cheaper to run and easier to park on Mall Road, and the Baleno automatic takes the strain out of the Solan climb.

See the car →

Creta or Scorpio N

Manali, Dharamshala, Mussoorie

Longer days, more luggage, often a family. Higher seating helps on the Pandoh gorge and the boot swallows a week of bags.

See the car →

Jimny or Thar

Spiti, Leh, Rohtang, Chandratal

Loose shale, water crossings and altitude. This is the only category we release for Spiti and Leh, and it is a condition of the rental rather than an upsell.

See the car →

Fortuner or Hilux

Long Ladakh runs, corporate travel, gear-heavy trips

Quiet cabins over very long days, seven seats in the Fortuner, and a cargo bed in the Hilux. GST invoices where the booking needs one.

See the car →

If you are still undecided, message us with your route and dates. We will tell you when the cheaper car is the right car, because a trip that goes badly costs us more in the long run than the difference in a day rate. The route guides go into the surface conditions, permits and seasons for each destination in detail.

What you need to rent a car in Chandigarh

A driving licence you have held for at least a year, and an Aadhaar card or passport. Minimum age is twenty one. Send photographs on WhatsApp or through the booking form and approval usually lands inside two hours on a weekday. Foreign nationals need a passport, a valid visa and an International Driving Permit, and it is worth starting that conversation a few days early rather than the night before.

No physical paperwork changes hands at the depot, because there is no depot visit. The FAQ covers the awkward cases: a licence issued in another state, a learner permit, a corporate booking on a company card, and what happens if you are running late on the return.

Seasons, and when to book early

Two windows sell out. The first is any long weekend between March and June, when everyone in the Tricity has the same Shimla idea at the same time. The second is the Spiti and Leh season from June to September, when the 4x4 cars go weeks in advance and there is no way to conjure another Jimny at short notice. For a normal weekday hatchback, two or three days ahead is plenty. For a Jimny in July, think in weeks.

Winter is quieter and cheaper, and the hills are better for it. What changes is the conversation at booking: between December and February we want to know your exact route before handing over keys, because snow above Kufri and on the Atal Tunnel approach turns a straightforward drive into a judgement call.

How It Works

Booking takes
about 3 minutes

We built SelfDriveGo because the other options were bad in the same three ways every time. Wrong cars, no support, charges nobody mentioned upfront. Here is how we do it differently.

Or just WhatsApp them to us

STEP 3

Car arrives at your door

We deliver a clean, fuelled, photo-documented car to your house. Walkthrough, handover, and you're off.

We watch your back 24/7 on the road

Still not sure which car to pick?

WhatsApp us your destination and dates. We will recommend the right car in minutes.

Rented the Jimny for the Spiti circuit and it earned every rupee. The 4x4 engaged without drama at Kunzum. What actually surprised me was the support. I messaged at 2am about the Losar stretch and got a straight answer, no attitude about the hour.
