A Hilux on rent in Chandigarh is a specific tool for a specific job, and the job is carrying things to places without roads. It is ₹5,999 a day with 350 kilometres included, automatic, five seats, four wheel drive, and it has a cargo bed that solves a problem no SUV boot can.
Film crews, photographers and Spiti expeditions are who book it. Six jerry cans, two spare tyres, camera boxes and a week of camping kit go in the bed and stay out of the cabin, which is the difference between a comfortable expedition and five people sharing a footwell with a fuel can.
It is cleared for Spiti Valley and the Manali-Leh Highway, and it is genuinely capable on the surfaces that matter there. Being automatic is a bigger advantage than it sounds on the Gata Loops, where a manual has you working constantly at altitude.
It is also the least sensible car in our fleet for a normal hill weekend, and we say that plainly. If you are not carrying equipment, the Fortuner is more comfortable and the Jimny is cheaper and easier.

THE HONEST PART
What the Hilux is bad at
Secure and dry luggage. The bed is open. Anything in it needs covering and strapping, and it should not be left loaded overnight in a public car park. That single fact rules it out for a lot of trips that otherwise suit it.
Town driving and parking. It is the longest vehicle we rent. Kasauli, McLeod Ganj and old Shimla are all genuinely awkward in it, and reversing out of a narrow lane takes real care.
Being the sensible choice. Five seats at ₹5,999 is more expensive per person than the Scorpio N with seven at ₹5,499. Unless you specifically need the bed, another car in the fleet does your trip better for less.
