Luxury car rental in Chandigarh usually conjures a German saloon for a wedding entrance. That is a real market and it is not ours. What we rent at the top of our range are premium SUVs built for very long days on Himalayan roads, and the people who book them are doing Ladakh, corporate travel or a family trip where nobody wants to arrive frayed.

The Toyota Fortuner at ₹7,999 a day is the flagship: seven seats, 400 kilometres included, and the quietest cabin in the fleet by a wide margin. The Toyota Hilux at ₹5,999 is the expedition tool, with a cargo bed that swallows jerry cans and camera boxes. The Mahindra Scorpio N at ₹5,499 is the value end of premium and still a substantial car.

All three are automatic. All three carry comprehensive insurance, GPS, the Himachal permit and free Tricity delivery inside the rate, and all three can be invoiced against a GSTIN if this is a company booking.

WHICH ONE

PICKING BETWEEN THEM

Toyota Fortuner

The flagship, ₹7,999 a day

TOYOTA

Seven seats, the highest kilometre allowance we offer at 400 a day, and the cabin that makes a fourteen day Ladakh trip pleasant rather than endurable. Cleared for Spiti and the Manali-Leh Highway. The car most corporate bookings and most long expeditions take.

Toyota Hilux

The expedition pick, ₹5,999 a day

TOYOTA

A double-cab 4x4 pickup with 350 km a day and a cargo bed that takes what no SUV boot will. Film crews, photographers and gear-heavy Spiti trips book this. Five seats, automatic, and genuinely capable where the tarmac stops.

Mahindra Scorpio N

Premium at ₹5,499 a day

MAHINDRA

Seven seats, strong diesel torque and a proper automatic, at the lowest price of the three. Cleared for Manali, Shimla and Dharamshala but not for Spiti or Ladakh. The right call when you want presence and space without the Fortuner rate.

What you are actually paying for

Refinement over distance, mostly. On a two day Shimla trip the difference between a Creta and a Fortuner is pleasant but hard to justify. On a twelve day Ladakh run at 250 kilometres a day across five high passes, it stops being a luxury and starts being the reason you are still enjoying yourself on day nine.

The kilometre allowance is the other part. The Fortuner carries 400 km a day against 300 on the Jimny, and on a trip that covers 3,000 kilometres in total that difference is worth more than it looks on the price list.

And in the Hilux, what you pay for is the bed. There is no polite way to fit six jerry cans, two spare tyres and a camera case into a seven seat SUV with people in it. Every expedition that has tried has regretted it.

Corporate and GST bookings

These three cars are the ones companies book, and we invoice against a GSTIN as standard. Give us the company name and number at booking and the paperwork comes out correctly the first time rather than after three emails.

For repeat travel, longer arrangements are usually cheaper than a stack of daily rates. Our monthly rental and corporate pages cover the bands, and for anything above a fortnight it is worth a conversation rather than a booking form.

Weddings and events, honestly

People do ask, and we do rent for weddings, but set expectations first. These are mountain SUVs, not chauffeured saloons. A Fortuner makes a strong entrance and looks right in photographs. If what you want is a white Mercedes with a driver and ribbons, that is a different business and we will happily tell you so rather than take the booking.

What we are good at is the group travel around a wedding: moving families between Chandigarh, Panchkula and a venue in the foothills, over several days, in one comfortable vehicle. Book early, because the Fortuner is a single car and wedding season overlaps with the Ladakh season.

What these cars are bad at

Fuel and towns. All three are large diesel SUVs, so budget substantially more per kilometre than a Creta. And in the older parts of Shimla, McLeod Ganj or Kasauli, the Fortuner and Hilux are the hardest cars in our fleet to park and the least fun to reverse out of a lane with a queue behind you.

The Hilux specifically has an open cargo bed, which means luggage in it needs covering and securing and should not be left loaded overnight in a public car park. It is the right car for an expedition and the wrong car for a city break.

If your trip is Shimla for a weekend with four people, the Creta at ₹3,999 does the same job better and cheaper. We would rather say that than sell you a Fortuner you did not need.

FAQ

LUXURY AND PREMIUM SUVS QUESTIONS

What luxury cars can I rent on self drive in Chandigarh?

SelfDriveGo rents three premium SUVs: the Toyota Fortuner at ₹7,999 a day with 400 km included, the Toyota Hilux at ₹5,999 with 350 km, and the Mahindra Scorpio N at ₹5,499 with 350 km. All three are automatic and all three include insurance, GPS, the Himachal inter-state permit and free Tricity delivery.

How much is a Fortuner for self drive in Chandigarh?

The Toyota Fortuner is ₹7,999 a day with 400 kilometres included, which is the highest allowance in the SelfDriveGo fleet. It seats seven, is automatic, and is cleared for Spiti Valley and the Manali-Leh Highway. GST invoicing is available and longer hires move into weekly and monthly bands.

Do you rent luxury sedans or German cars for weddings?

No. Our premium range is mountain SUVs: the Toyota Fortuner, Toyota Hilux and Mahindra Scorpio N. We do rent them for wedding travel and a Fortuner photographs well, but if you want a chauffeured luxury saloon with ribbons, that is a different service and we will point you elsewhere rather than take the booking.

Is the Fortuner worth ₹4,000 more a day than a Creta?

On a Shimla weekend, probably not. On a twelve day Ladakh trip, yes. The Fortuner gives you seven seats, 400 km a day against the Creta 350, and a much quieter cabin, and those three things compound over very long distances. For short hill trips with four people the Hyundai Creta at ₹3,999 does the job better and cheaper.

Can I get a GST invoice for a corporate booking?

Yes, on all three premium SUVs. Provide the company name and GSTIN when you book and we raise the invoice against it. The Fortuner is the car most corporate bookings take, and for repeat travel our monthly rental bands work out lower than daily rates.

Which premium SUV should I take to Spiti?

The Toyota Hilux, if you are carrying gear. Its cargo bed takes jerry cans and equipment that will not fit in an SUV boot with passengers aboard, and it has 350 km a day. The Toyota Fortuner is also cleared for Spiti. The Mahindra Scorpio N is not, so for that route the choice is Hilux, Fortuner, Jimny or Thar.
